To All Potential Volunteer Attorney Trainees:
The NEW ONLINE fall training for the Eastern Jackson County Youth Court will begin on Thursday, September 24, 2020. Please obtain a trainee application above or from the high school office, a debate/law coach, a school counselor, or a School Resource Officer along with a copy of the 2020 training schedule.
Eastern Jackson County Youth Court volunteer training requirements for new attorneys are as follows:
Complete the trainee application, have a parent sign it, and turn it in to the Youth Court office by
Wednesday, September 23rd by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
2. Students must be in the 8th grade or higher.
3. Students must have at least a “C” grade average.
4. Students must have good school attendance record and no discipline violations.
If you meet the above listed requirements, you are eligible to attend training for the Eastern Jackson County Youth Court. You will not be notified by Youth Court that you have been accepted into the program. It is automatic that you are accepted as a volunteer and you should appear ONLINE for training the first day. To successfully complete Youth Court training you must participate in all of the online training sessions and pass a written Bar Exam.
*Some training sessions later in October and November may be held in person at the Independence or Grain Valley Municipal Courtrooms. For Youth Court purposes, “courtroom attire” is dark dress slacks (Not white, khaki or jeans) and dress shoes. A dress shirt and tie for young men (a suit jacket also looks nice) and for young women a dress shirt or blouse (blouse should not be too short, tight or revealing & a suit jacket is nice as well). If the attire is not acceptable for court, you may be sent home to change or not allowed to participate at that court session.
Thank you for your interest in the Eastern Jackson County Youth Court. I look forward to meeting you at training.
